Election Day Is November 3: Make Your Voice Count!

Tuesday, November 3, is Election Day in the United States! If you’re a U.S. citizen and eligible to vote, now is the time to make your voice heard.

Be sure to check your voter registration status, confirm your polling location, and make a plan to cast your ballot. This right is especially meaningful for naturalized citizens as citizenship approvals have declined dramatically.

Recent USCIS data shows that naturalization approvals dropped from more than 241,000 in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025 to fewer than 58,000 during the same period in 2026. For those who have earned the right to vote, Election Day is an important opportunity to exercise it.

Immigrant Visas Slow in Coming

In January 2026, the Trump Administration stopped issuing immigrant visas to people from 75 countries, claiming they were more likely to rely on government assistance.

In August, a federal judge ruled that the policy was unlawful and ordered visa processing to resume. However, the Administration introduced stricter financial screening requirements under the “public charge” rule, making it harder for immigrants to qualify for visas.

As a result, as of this month, thousands of immigrants are still waiting overseas, and families remain separated despite the court’s ruling.

Immigration Court Protections Eliminated in Controversial Deal

A 2024 Biden regulation allowed immigration judges to temporarily pause deportation proceedings, giving immigrants time to pursue other legal options, such as family petitions or U visas.

However, on June 22, 2026, Texas sued to overturn the rule, and the Trump Administration agreed that very same day. Three cities and an immigrant rights organization challenged the decision, alleging collusion between Texas and the Administration to bypass normal legal procedures. On October 27, the Supreme Court declined to temporarily restore the rule.

As a result, immigrants with legitimate paths to legal status may face deportation simply because their immigration applications take longer to process than their court cases.
